Global Warming - Two words that we have been hearing for quite some time! We are already experiencing the consequences of Global Warming, which makes it essential for us to understand what and how exactly global warming is making an impact without our awareness. But before we get into that, let's first understand what Global Warming is!
Increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere, especially a sustained increase great enough to cause changes in the global climate." Over the last few decades, the problem has attracted more and more attention.
The global annual temperature has been on the rise. It was around 1 degree Celsius during the Industrial Revolution. Since 1981, however, the rate of temperature increase has been more than double. What's the practical effect of this? It's not just about us living in a hotter environment because whenever you hear about wildfires, droughts, or any disaster of an extreme kind, you must remember that they are the effects of Global Warming.
MAJOR CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING
Wondering what is leading to the rising temperatures? Let's understand some of the major causes.
Burning of Fossil Fuels
We need a lot of things to keep our daily activities running. From electricity to cars, we burn fossil fuels which lead to Carbon Dioxide being released into the atmosphere. This leads to pollution, which eventually leads to Global Warming.
Deforestation
Deforestation has been one of the most significant contributors to Global Warming. Converting forest land into places that human beings can inhabit is necessary, but cutting down trees results in more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Waste
We are buying and using more and more products and every product comes with the packaging. Along with this, tons of other kinds of waste that are not recyclable. When this waste decomposes, it emits harmful gasses into the atmosphere, eventually contributing to Global Warming.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO SAVE OUR PLANET?
Global Warming is a challenge that the world faces, and we can only fight it with consistency and commitment. All of us can take small steps towards a better environment. Let's look at a few things that can help!
Use Energy-Efficient Appliances
Thanks to technological advances, the appliances we use daily save a lot of energy. They help combat carbon dioxide and, help in our fight against the impact of Global Warming. For example, a simple change in our light bulb we use can make a massive difference. Instead of a regular light bulb, we can use compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs that last 10 times longer and use less energy!
Rethink Transportation
While it's not possible for us to avoid traveling by cars or flights, it's possible to make a difference through small choices: Whenever possible, walk instead of using transportation that causes Global Warming. While buying a new car, choose a car that relies less on fossil fuels.
Recycle Waste
The waste we discard ends up harming the environment. Finding ways to recycle with help us save our planet, not for us but for the generations coming after us.
